Description

The Langebaan Lagoon Crossing is an annual event where participants cross the Langebaan Lagoon on muscle power alone.

Although planned as an open water swim, swimming aids, kayaks, paddle boards, surf boards and any other more original methods are allowed (and encouraged!) Maximum fun, environmental awareness and safety are the central themes for this event.

The lagoon is a pristine haven for migratory bird life and is protected as part of the West Coast National Park (South African National Parks Board). The lagoon's shallow water with its tropical temperature is popular among watersports enthusiasts and ideally suited for open water swimming.

The protection of the lagoon lies at the heart of this event and the 2014 event will be aimed at reducing waste and encouraging recycling in the Langebaan area.
